Optimal matching of hematopoietic cell transplant donors and recipients is based on multiple factors, but with a primary consideration given to the level of HLA genotype matching.  Clinical complications post-transplant suggest that there is still much room for improvement in this matching process, and the additional HLA-allele level information provided by NGS typing should impact matching algorithms and improve overall patient outcomes long-term.
